The Colourful Black Auctioneer

Andrew Thomas was a Nigerian, of Oyo (Yoruba) royalty, born in January 1856. Prior to his auctioneering career, he worked in the British colonial civil service in Lagos. In 1914, at the outbreak of the First World War, he secured the biggest auctioneering contract of his career, the auctioning of all German assets in Nigeria and the Cameroons. The project was part of Britain’s (and Allied Forces) strategy to weaken Germany. He used his position as Vice President of the Aborigines Protection Society to campaign for civil rights. He was also the first President of the African Church Bethel, one of Nigeria’s earliest indigenous churches and a mustard seed of self-rule. Dear Patient

Great progress has been made in creating awareness of patient experience and promoting its practice in care settings and among commissioners of health and care services. However, the true appreciation and practice of patient experience is yet to be the norm, even in advanced economies. The Shooting of King's College Boys
----
J K Randle

King’s College, Lagos is to Nigeria what public schools such as Eton and Harrow are to the UK. Many of its old boys were for decades, and remain, captains of industries and have been the ‘movers and shakers’ in political and government sectors. They also have a good presence in the alumni circles of top global universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, and Harvard. Their business exploits are therefore not confined to the shores of Nigeria. It is against this background that various developments in Nigeria are explored in this book, including decay and rot in the polity, economy, and even in the buildings and infrastructure of their alma mater. Should King’s College old boys be held accountable for the woes of Nigeria and forced to stare at the barrel of the gun? Or should it be death by guillotine, as also suggested?!
